Carl
"Rusty" White: Born in 1971 to Carl and Lorraine White in Baldwin Hills California. By the age of 6 Lorraine's love for the ocean had a huge impact on Rusty's life. Rusty began surfing by the age of 12 and continued to progress with confidence. While the kids at school made fun of him for his interests in a white man's sport, Rusty's enthusiasm was recognized by his soon to be mentors Damon Turner, Mel Hillard and most importantly David Landsdowne. Rusty started competing at the age of 15 traveling up and down the coast with David for contests; soon after David disappeared from the competition scene. Rusty continued surfing competitions, winning numerous 1st place championships. To this day Rusty still competes in local contests focusing more on his travels which have taken him to numerous breaks around the world like Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica and Indonesia. Rusty can usually be scene surfing the Santa Monica/Venice area. |
